Volunteer at lunch clubs

Lunch clubs are run by Royal Voluntary Service volunteers who give their time so that older people can come together to enjoy tasty food and company on a regular basis.

Could you volunteer to help cook for a crowd?

The intention is always the same; to provide equal helpings of food and good company – the two essential ingredients we believe should always be hand in hand.

If you'd enjoy helping to cook for a crowd, you could support your local community by donating your time and becoming a lunch club volunteer. This could involve helping with food preparation, serving meals and giving a friendly welcome to diners. Sign up today.

If you have more time you could help create new opportunities for local people to meet in a welcoming environment by starting up a lunch club of your own. We’ll give you all the help you need. We have lots of experience so we know the kind of support that’s really useful:

  • One-to-one guidance, as and when needed
  • A toolkit to guide you through setting up
  • Help with insurance, marketing and finding volunteers
  • Seed funding to help get you started.

Start up a lunch club

For many people these clubs are the only opportunity to eat a meal in company that they have all week. Lots of the members who come live alone, without relatives or a support network nearby, and the clubs are a chance to socialise with others and catch up with or meet new friends as well as to experience first-hand the high quality food and companionship on offer from our amazing volunteers.

Today Royal Voluntary Service volunteers run nearly 80 lunch clubs, providing over 50,000 tasty hot meals, as well as companionship, each year in communities all across Britain.

We need people like you to step forward and volunteer at our lunch clubs or to take the lead and help start up one of your own lunch or social clubs.
