Her Majesty The Queen announced as Patron of Royal Voluntary Service

The charity celebrates the new patronage of Her Majesty the Queen, who had previously been President of Royal Voluntary Service since 2012.

Buckingham Palace announced that Her Majesty The Queen will become the Patron of Royal Voluntary Service.

Since becoming Royal Voluntary Service’s President in 2012, Her Majesty’s support has been instrumental in helping the charity to celebrate volunteers and showcase its impact in communities across the nation.

"We are thrilled and honoured to call Her Majesty The Queen our Patron. We know, like us, Her Majesty believes volunteers are the backbone of Britain and she is a wonderful champion for Royal Voluntary Service and for volunteers across the breadth and depth of our country.

"Over the years she’s visited many of our services to meet and pay tribute to our volunteers, and last year created the space for volunteering to be a national conversation in every community as part of the Coronation celebrations. The spotlight on volunteering continues through the Big Help Out which is taking place on 7-9 June."

Catherine Johnstone CBE, Chief Executive of Royal Voluntary Service

This year Her Majesty delighted volunteers and people supported by the charity when joining events including a spring craft workshop and beginner dance class, where she also thanked volunteers and listened to the experiences of guests who receive support from Royal Voluntary Service.

The late Queen Elizabeth II was Patron of Royal Voluntary Service from 1952.
